WINDSOR – The Lowland Village

The once rural greenbelt surrounding Sydney has all but disappeared and Windsor, sitting above vibrant turf farms, fertile soil and a dark river, depicts a rural life that is almost lost.

Considered the "low-land" by locals due to flooding, the river dominates life - Windsor streets lead down to the river, a recently built bypass sits above a flooding river and much of the farming land is designated as a flood area.

Windsor in the Hawkesbury Map

We refer you to the Historic Windsor Guide and to www.historicwindsorguide.com which gives greater detail about historic George Street and other activities around Windsor. The regional museum with a quality exhibition of historic artefacts, a regional gallery, and many shops and cafés are listed on the website. Consider a full day if you love history, browsing in shops and relaxing along the river.

Indicated on this map, along Hawkesbury Valley Way, you'll find additional recreational activities, up-market accommodation, food and beverages. Nearby in Clarendon, the Hawkesbury Visitor Information Centre houses all the latest information about the area.
