RICHMOND – A Macquarie Town

Founded by Governor Macquarie in 1810, Richmond combines both the past and the present – a mix of a rural 21st century country town and 19th century historic beginnings.

Richmond in the Hawkesbury Map

We suggest you take a stroll past some of the unique Georgian buildings. The Hawkesbury Visitor Information Centre will provide walking tour maps of Richmond. Plan a beatiful spring or autumn morning walk - even if your time is limited. Parking is usually available on Windsor and Chapel Streets ? away from the commercial section.

Several historic buildings are vacant, a few serve their original purpose and others continue but with reinvented lives. Richmond Park, framed by March and Windsor Streets, was once the focal point of Richmond, the market square - hence the adjoining streets, West Market and East Market. Today, locals gather in this same market square, buying and selling their wares outside the white picket fence while a competitive cricket match ensues in the grassy centre.

Hawkesbury City Chamber of Commerce

Hawkesbury City Chamber of CommerceAddress: Magnolia Mall, Windsor Street, Richmond
Phone: 02 4578 7878

Hawkesbury's Chamber of Commerce has gone through a 'reinvention' in recent months. An increased focus on programs and initiatives for small businesses and a successful grant application for Federal funding has enabled a dedicated Business Development Manager to lead this change and provide greater value to Hawkesbury's business community.

The new direction has led the Chamber to look within and without - challenges and competition from surrounding areas are constant, and assisting local businesses will help keep customers local and loyal.

An expanded program of networking events gives members even more opportunities to meet each other with monthly breakfasts at the Sebel Resort, Women in Business luncheons and After 5 events. Knowing those in business around you can often lead to partnerships, exchange of ideas and opportunities to promote your business. At these events, keynote speakers – experts in their fields – offer great insights into the broader business world and make a valuable contribution to building local business in the Hawkesbury.

The Hawkesbury Chamber of Commerce also is heavily involved with regional, state and Federal initiatives, such as the Young Entrepreneur Program, a five-week program for young business owners between the ages of 18 and 35. Mentees were paired with dedicated mentors from the local business community ? promoting new growth and building knowledge within the district.

This year, programs with industry experts include the Aussie Host Program and, specific to customer service skill development, Business in Hard Times, Marketing II, Business Strategies and Business Mentoring.

The role of the Chamber is to provide specific support to facets of business that may not be part of your core offering ? the key, Chamber believes, is the development of relevant and timely support programs, valuable networking opportunities and to work in tandem with other representative bodies with this same agenda.

WINDSOR – The Lowland Village

The once rural greenbelt surrounding Sydney has all but disappeared and Windsor, sitting above vibrant turf farms, fertile soil and a dark river, depicts a rural life that is almost lost.

Considered the ‘low-land’ by locals due to flooding, the river dominates life – Windsor streets lead down to the river, a recently built bypass sits above a flooding river and much of the farming land is designated as a flood area.

We refer you to the Historic Windsor Guide and to the website www.historicwindsorguide.com which gives greater detail about historic George Street and other activities around Windsor. The regional museum with a quality exhibition of historic artefacts, a regional gallery, and many shops and cafés are listed on the website. Consider a full day if you love history, browsing in shops and relaxing along the river.

Indicated on this map, along Hawkesbury Valley Way, you’ll find additional recreational activities, up-market accommodation, food and beverages. Nearby in Clarendon, the Hawkesbury Visitor Information Centre houses all the latest information about the area.
