4-STAR REASONS TO SKIP WORK ON MONDAY

- Area: Wisemans Ferry/St Albans:
- Grab a bite at the Convict Road Kiosk adjacent to Wisemans Ferry ramp (Wisemans Ferry Park). Burgers are good and reasonably priced.
- Great North Road, Settlers Road, Wisemans Ferry: Take the Wisemans Ferry and turn left when you exit. The gated entrance is about 500 metres from the ferry. Closed to vehicles, you can only climb the Great North Road. Built in 1826 by convicts, the road is an engineering feat and it is a moderate two-hour return trek. (Carry water, wear a hat & sun block). The National Park signage is among the best we have seen.
- Keeping with the early Australian theme, book in at Price Morris Cottage in St Albans. It is a charming heritage-listed cottage, lovingly restored by its owner who lived in the cottage as a 1960s youngster. You won't forget the welcoming you receive (by the owner) upon your arrival and you'll love 'the loo with a view' (no, it's not a typo!)
- Area: Mount Tomah Botanic Gardens:
- These gorgeous gardens have recently acquired the Jungle Walk and Lodge. Mount Tomah is a cool-climate garden and the views are stupendous. The Lodge (self-contained accommodation) sleeps you and your 9 best friends! And, the price is "so right". In apple season, you can purchase freshly baked pies and fresh apple juice at The Pines on Bells Line of Road, Bilpin for your getaway to Mount Tomah.
- Area: Penrith Valley and Windsor:
- Penrith Whitewater Centre. Be aware this is an adventure sport and be prepared for sore thighs and arms afterwards. But the thrill and exhilaration is a show-stopper!
- ISSC: Boring summer days? Kids underfoot? The International Sand Sculpting Championship is just the answer. 3-meter tall sand creatures to delight everyone. Historic Windsor 11Jan - 29Jan. 1 300 362 874.
- Biviano Italian Restaurant: End your day in Windsor with dinner on Baker Street at Biviano's in one of Windsor's restored historic buildings.
