A contemporary cellar door in a historic vineyard is the most recent to join the Hawkesbury wine community. Vintners Ray and Alison Hayek have lovingly restored the historic vineyards, buildings and grounds of a five-acre paddock that Dr Thomas Fiaschi (1887) called his Jubilee Vineyard. Fiaschi's property grew to 54 acres under vine and in production until 1963. The vineyards were destroyed by bushfires in the 1960s.

On a drizzly March afternoon we first saw the remarkable renovation of the newly renovated 1960s buildings and toured the beautiful grounds. We visited again in November. Alison, in recent months has begun a series of "hands-on" interactive tastings for corporate conferences and other corporate social events at off-site settings.

Today, Jubilee Vineyard bottles a Chambourcin Rose, Chambourcin Red and Sauvignon Blanc.

Tizzana has become a "hot spot" this year for day trippers and bus tours - a bit of television coverage let all Sydneysiders in on the Hawkesbury's well-known secret. Wine-tasting with the vintner on hand includes an antipasto platter. The historic building is remarkable and if you plan ahead, you can enjoy an overnight stay in the five-star B&B.
